As kids we have a pure innocence that knows no boundaries and our dreams are as large and as magnanimous as our imagination can take us. As we grow older and experience life more, we become jaded and lose that virtue, become cynical, and our dreams are not as vivid as they once were. I am so THANKFUL that the world does not dictate the outcome of our dreams and if we are courageous enough to forge ahead in spite of all or any obstacles, our dreams can still come true.
I am very THANKFUL that dreams never die. They may become dormant or even forgotten, and in worse cases, given up on, but that precious dream still lies within and is just waiting to be stirred up, shaken awake, and pursued again. Life will take you on many twists and turns, derailing your thoughts, detouring your focus, and dividing your time, but is it not amazing how one glimmer of hope, one leap of faith, can redirect you and put you right on course to achieving your deepest desires and wildest dreams!
What is a real miracle is how even when you may quit on your dream, it never quit on you and when least expected, that dream that you no longer thought of, considered a possibility, or even fathom any longer has now come to fruition. THANKFUL for dreams beyond reality and greater than doubt and fear. THANKFUL for the little kid in me who still remembers that anything I believe, if I so desire and am willing to put in the work, I can achieve it!
THANKFUL that dreams are windows to our heart’s desires, our mind’s infatuations, and our soul’s purpose-filled destiny. THANKFUL that our greatest dreams somehow formulate a blueprint and road that lead to our greatest joy. Dream on my friend…
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” ~ Harriet Tubman
“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.” ~ Langston Hughes
Passion is an intense emotion, a compelling enthusiasm or desire, it is that thing that wakes you in the morning springing you out of the bed and keeps you up late at night focused on accomplishing all that you have set out to do. Passion is what fuels the purpose and marries the two to change potential to a fulfilled promise! Passion is the catalyst that sparks our hopes, dreams, and aspirations and drives you to achieve the unbelievable, obtain the unthinkable, and shatter any notions of doubt and fear. What you are passionate about is what has been inbred in you and powers the journey ahead. What is that you are passionate about?
Whatever you are passionate about, that one thing in this world you literally would do for free if there were no obstacles or fear of failure, follow it, pursue it, live in it, for it is there that you will not only find purpose, but also walk in God’s promise for your life. God has given each of us specific talents and specific tools to accomplish a specific task. Do not waste your tools or let them go rusty! Walk in your purpose and feed off your passion; the promise will not come back void!
I challenge each of you to trust whatever it is that moves you and excites you, research it, study it, practice it, and use it! It is there for a reason, so stop running from it and denying it. Live the life that was purposed for you and soak up every bit of it. Let your passion light up the world and all you encounter leaving a mark that will transcend and surpass your wildest fantasies. You are more than if only you believe.
Living on #Purpose fueled by #Passion and striving towards #Destiny. Have you found your passion? Are you ready to channel it to achieve your dreams?
“ Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams.” ~ Donovan Bailey
There are times when you have to know when to regroup and/or walk away. It is one of the hardest decisions and no matter what the circumstances or situation, it is never easy to look at something you have invested blood, sweat, and tears in and imagine it may have run its course and now it is time to cut ties.
Despite how difficult it may seem, it takes a wise person who understands that emotional ties are not enough to continue down a path to nowhere or worse yet, a path of destruction. Continuing a journey that has no destiny is as damaging, if not more damaging, than a poor plan. A poor plan is bound to fail because the preparation was never there. But continuing when you no there is little to no chance of success is a waste of time, effort and resources, and prevents you from revamping, recollecting, and restarting. Why waste more time when that season has expired?
We all must possess a sense of serenity and clarity to know when to accept fate. It does not mean we have surrendered or given up, but it is a measure of maturity to realize that not everything can be salvaged or fixed. Somethings are meant to be a lesson to prepare us for the next season and the next phase of life and we have to be courageous enough to learn the lesson and let go those things that do not benefit the ultimate goals. There are many roads to destiny and just because one road ends and another has roadblocks, it does not mean the journey is over.
Be courageous enough to persevere through the storms, but wise enough to know when to take shelter. The thing about dreams are they show the grand finale, but very few times do they show all it takes to get there. Vision is the manifestation of the dream, a realistic, attainable goal. Your wisdom is what will determine if it remains simply a dream, something you fantasize about, or develops and builds into a vision, a culmination of proper planning and preparation, hard, dedicated work, and intelligent and practical choices.
The wise live to fight another day, but the foolish continue to follow a dead end to certain peril and doom. Give yourself permission to walk away from anything or anyone who does not factor in your growth or prosperity. It is better to cut a parasite out instead of letting it consume and destroy all! Be wise my friend!
The dream is yours and no one else, so if you want it, you have to hustle for it. You have heard BrotherWord talk time and time again about staying positive while on the journey, how positivity breeds productivity, and when you are productive, the possibilities are endless. I am a strong advocate of chasing the dream, but as it is said, the dream is free, the hustle is sold separately! It is Carpe Diem Season, time to seize the moment.
Anything worth having is worth working for it. Success does not happen by accident nor does it fall from the sky; it is obtained through grinding and hustling to make it happen. No one who has ever reached the proverbial mountaintop said it came easy or without some hardships, but you also did not hear anyone say it was not worth the hustle.
If for any reason you are questioning this and shaking your head asking what does BrotherWord know, listen to a young kid from Philly who hustled his way to megastar status. And if for any reason you doubt where hustle will take you, listen to the words of the incomparable Will Smith! Enjoy!
Here’s a message from those that motivate and inspire BrotherWord. Sometimes, you have to look at the journey of others to see where the road can lead. Life is limited, but the possibilities are limitless! Dreams can become reality, victories can be won, and tribulations can be overcome. Even when you can not see the entire road ahead, it is comforting to know that others have ventured the same roads and stumbled through the same woods to reach their destination. Do not let the unknown impede your path or stop you from chasing your goals. The road less traveled is for those willing to take risks, face obstacles, and pursue the inconceivable to see their dreams come true.
I can not over-emphasize the importance of having the right people around you. It is not about those that will agree with you always or tag along for the sake of being involved, but it is about a small, cohesive crew of like-minded individuals who will challenge and push you to optimize your potential. Progression, not regression is the key.
#IRunWithLions talked about the type of friends we associate ourselves with and how they build us up, support us, and even correct us in love when necessary. The only way that is possible is if your team believes in your dream. You can not share your vision with everyone as not everyone will be as forward thinking or unafraid to fail as you may be. Beware of the dream killers who will try to tarnish your vision or persuade you to abandon your dream. Those without the same drive will try all they can to keep you stuck with them, trapped in the quicksand going nowhere.
Today is the day when you weed out the wannabes and discover the prospects of the future. Build a team of go-getters, revolutionaries, inventors, those that fear the possibilities of failure, but are still brave enough to try anyway. The saying holds true that you are reflective of those you surround yourself with. Are you surrounding yourself with lions or sheep? Pioneers or those that are satisfied with the status quo?
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” ~ African Proverb
How far do you want to go and who do you want with you when you reach the mountaintop? Remember, those with you can either boost you higher, supporting you as you climb and pulling you up when you stumble, or like crabs in a barrel, can trip you and pull you down every time you try to achieve new heights.
One person can cause a ripple, but together, the movement is a force to be reckoned with that spreads like a wave that covers and transforms lives, affects change, and brings about a new era.
“Individually we are one drop. Together we are an ocean.” ~ Ryunosuke Satoro
This is everything that is right in our society and why the next generation is well on their way to making a positive impact. After the unexpected death of one of their classmate’s father, who also lost his mother in 2012, the students at Herman High School in Missouri took it upon themselves to support their friend, Zack Ruediger, and show everyone how the simplest of gestures can make the biggest difference. Bravo to these young leaders!
To the Class of 2014, the best years of your life are ahead of you. Every dream, aspiration, and desire you have ever imagined are all possible. It will not be easy, but it is attainable. Along the road you will face challenges and obstacles that may seem insurmountable. These trials will try to break your spirit if you allow them, but rest assured, those tumultuous times are evidence that you are on the right path and will help shape you into productive members of society and provide you the mental and emotional tools to withstand hardship. Keep your head up; God gives His toughest battles to His strongest warriors. Remember to embrace life, breathe it in deeply, caress every opportunity, choose your friends carefully, and when it appears you have nothing left, simply stop and look around you. You will discover that not all is lost and that dire matter you may be currently facing is not as bad as originally perceived. Perception and reality are two different things and the quicker you learn that and develop the ability to discern one from the other, life will become much grander.
As you continue to bend life to your will, shape your reality, and carve out your own niche, take heed to the following quotes. They will help propel you through life and remind you that you are capable of anything. To the 2014 graduating class at Herman High School, if this is an example of what your future holds, you are well on your way to greatness!
How often do so many allow themselves to be labeled by others, ultimately being boxed in, and relinquishing all power, allowing someone else to dictate their destiny? Many times people assume the labels put on them by their family, friends, and society and instead of proving them wrong and rising above the stereotypes, many take on a persona they were never meant to inherit. THE TIME IS NOW! If there is something you have been wanting to do, if there is a thought that has been monopolizing your every waking moment, if there is a dream that has captured your subconscious, it is time to act! Tomorrow is not promised or guaranteed. The time wasted second-guessing yourself or contemplating the what-ifs could instead be used moving into your destiny and purpose.
Do not let the naysayers or doubters convince you that it is not possible or you are incapable of achieving your heart’s desire. Whatever that “it” is, it was birth in you for YOU and is not contingent on someone else’s beliefs or ideals. Embrace the dream, let it permeate your being and ingrain in every fiber of your soul, and do not let fear overtake you or diminish your goals.
It is said that FEAR is only false evidence appearing real. What is most important is how we handle that false evidence. Fear is a great springboard because it forces us out of our comfort zone, makes us confront our insecurities, and ourselves, and ignites our ability to withstand, overcome, and blossom beyond what we thought we were ever capable of handling. Fear is nothing more than another test of Fortitude, Exhortation, Attitude, and Revelation.
Today, right now, is the time to act! Do not waste another moment overthinking or underestimating. You have been ready and are more than capable. Move into your destiny, chase life’s promises, and pursue your destiny with all you have. You will be surprised how much you can accomplish by taking a single leap of faith and trusting no matter where you land, all will be well.
