With so much going on in the world, it is hard to find things to be THANKFUL for or show gratitude towards. The world, if you let it, will beat you down and tear you apart and test you at every turn and if you succumb to the doom and gloom, it will literally destroy you from the inside out.
Today, I am THANKFUL for the doom and gloom because after the clouds clear away, the sun shines and the rainbows appear. It is said, “Everyone wants happiness, but no one wants the pain. But you cannot have a rainbow, without a little rain.” No matter what is happening in your life it boils to a mindset of it is not what you go through, but how you go through it. So THANKFUL that the years have taught me to smile during the storm, praise through the pain, and rejoice in the eye of rejection. The sooner you accept that what is done is done and start working toward a resolution, the sooner the darkness will be lifted.
THANKFUL that pain is a reminder that I am still living and if I am still living that means I have a fighter’s chance to overcome and still prevail. So THANKFUL that I was taught at an early age that in order to win in life, you have to work. Everyone cannot win, but everyone can learn an invaluable lesson. You will not always be victorious in every endeavor in life, but you can still win the battle if you are willing to bravely face any enemy that arises.
And do not fret over mistakes and failures; they are character builders. There will come a time when being strong is the only thing you have left. I am THANKFUL for the times I have fallen because it taught me how to pick myself up, how to dust myself off, and how to carry on. Your best teacher is your last mistake!
Today, I am THANKFUL that anything that did not kill me, made me stronger and whatever has not broken me, has molded me. THANKFUL that until my last breath, I have another chance to better my life and so do you. THANKFUL is an intentional mindset and if you realize that life is about tests and just like the seasons, the climate will change and the sun will rise again.
“When I look back on my life, I see pain, mistakes, and heartache. When I look in the mirror, I see strength, learned lessons, and pride in myself.” ~ Anonymous
In life there will be times when you lose; it is a necessary part of life. Loss is a barometer of growth, but loss does not constitute defeat. A defeated mentality only happens when one gives up hope and surrenders to their circumstances. Defeat is a quitter’s mindset.
No one wants to lose. It is common practice to look at any loss as some sort of failure, but contrary to popular belief, there is much to gain in every loss. When we lose, we discover how to become better, we learn our strengths and weaknesses, we re-evaluate our plans, and if we truly pay attention, we learn the lesson. To lose means there is room to grow, but to become defeated means we no longer wish to succeed.
Every loss is preparing you for the ultimate victory and each time you fall short, it does not mean give up. It means that there is still preparation needed. It also is saving grace from a greater setback that could have possibly discouraged you or caused you to lose faith. Do not quit on yourself or your dreams!
Losing is a hard pill to swallow and rarely feels good, but sometimes, it is the best medicine one can receive. The tools you develop and sharpen, the wisdom that is forged, and the courage developed in the midst of midst of depair are what will propel you to overcome no matter the obstacle and never be defeated. So next time things don’t work out and it seems you have lost, look at it as a step closer to achieving your heart’s desire.
“Failure defeats losers, but it inspires winners.”
“My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
The truth about life is that failure is a very real part of the journey. You will face hardships in life, times that will bring you to your knees and shake you to your core, but it is not what you go through, but how you handle it as go through it. As much as failure may be a part of life, it should not be the defining factor.
Do not let the fear of failure paralyze you or prevent you from pursuing your hopes in dreams. When we fail, hopefully we also learn and grow. Use every set back as a set up for a come up! Just because you may have fallen short, that does not mean that is where you have to remain. Failure only wins when you quit and give up. There is no magic solution or shortcuts. The only way to overcome failure is to refuse to let it defeat you and persevere in spite of it.
Failure will provide perspective and appreciation. It will teach you the meaning of hard work and help you realize that you are more than capable of obtaining your dreams. Failure gives wisdom and strength and will force you to mature. Failure, if applied properly, can be the catalyst to success. Failing and overcoming builds character and breeds prosperity.
So the next time the plan does not go quite as expected or you come up a bit short, shake it off, pick yourself up, and continue on. The failure you may experience could be the first step to greatness, but the only way you will ever know is to not let failure become your final act.
“Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” ~ Winston Churchill
“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” ~ Robert F. Kennedy
“Failures are finger posts on the road to achievement.” ~ C.S. Lewis
Success only comes through perspiration. It’s a byproduct of the effort your willing to give which is only matched by the will you have to succeed. You are what you believe you are and despite what anyone may say, any obstacles that may arise, any setbacks or difficulties, you are the captain of your destiny. Today I challenge you to challenge yourself; reach deep within and explore parts of yourself that have been dormant or you thought was nonexistent. To succeed is to overcome and you already possess every tool you need.
