Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power. ~ Tao Te Ching
There are things in this world that once obtained, can never be taken away – knowledge, purpose, and love to name a few.
Knowledge like power is harnessed by a desire to grow, expand, to live beyond circumstances and situations, and once you get a taste of it, it is invigorating and empowering. Knowledge helps us not only on an intellectual plain, but also in our spiritual realm. The more self aware you become, the more you learn about the psyche of others, and the more verse you become on multiple topics, the quicker and better you are at adapting and adjusting to the many twists of life.
Knowledge is the sibling of purpose, because as you begin to learn, you begin to discover and it is on this journey that purpose is revealed and realized! Knowledge breeds passion and passion equates to purpose and purpose births love. Love is the byproduct of purpose as it stems from those things we are most passionate about.
Love is the result of pursuing purpose and can never be taken away. The misconception is that love fails or diminishes, but the truth of the matter is that love is an energy that shifts as we do. Love is not necessarily for the recipient but all about the giver as it is a manifestation of an inward impulse. It is spontaneous, unpredictable, consuming, liberating, and fulfilling and once given, it does the exact same for those that receive it! Love is the end result we all desire no matter the pursuit.
There are also things in this world that cannot be taken back once squandered – time and words.
Time is one commodity that cannot be bought or sold, you cannot get a return on it or recycle it, and once gone, you will never see again. Use the time you have to maximize the desires of your heart. Time wasted is an opportunity unfulfilled, but time used properly is a bottomless well of gratitude and thankfulness.
In the same breath (pun intended), choose your words carefully. Words can either build or destroy and it is a wise person who not only knows the difference, but also practices the principles. Our words are sharp double-edged swords that can cut, defend, free, or keep in bondage ourselves and others. A harsh word may be forgiven, but will surely not be forgotten. A kind word will not be forgotten, but will also break down walls and free people from captivity. It is a foolish man who uses words only to admonish, but it takes a wise man to let his words polish.
Hold tightly and guard those things that can never be taken away as they become roots of our tree that bear good fruit. And likewise, consciously remain aware of not forfeiting what can never be regained, as they too reflect who we are and will become and the fruit we shall bear.
You may find it hard to be THANKFUL when life keeps kicking you in the teeth and at every turn failure continues to loom, but I can guarantee you that on your worse day, there is someone out there who would trade with you in a heartbeat. Life can be a cruel and relenting piece of work, but you are far greater than anything life can throw at you.
So THANKFUL that I was made in His image, made to be a conqueror, made to be great, made to overcome, and made to win! One of the hardest things to absorb, let alone live by, is understanding that obedience is better than sacrifice and being obedient even when it makes no sense and is incomprehensible, is a feat in and of itself. But my God! I am THANKFUL that with obedience comes favor and with favor comes the blessings of God. Walking in God’s will can be a complex conundrum wrapped in an enigma, yet it is a fulfilling journey that cannot be replicated or replaced. That is more than enough to be THANKFUL for on any given day!
Tomorrow when everything seems to hit a nerve, when the traffic is moving too slow, co-workers become annoying, family is losing their minds, and the walls are closing in, remember this too shall pass and because of your obedience in fulfilling your purpose, you have already claimed the victory. Be THANKFUL for the noise because it is an opportunity to calm the hysteria; be THANKFUL for the chaos because it is God’s way of putting life back in order; and be THANKFUL for the unknown, because it is in the wilderness that we find direction, purpose, strength, courage, and gain knowledge.
Yes, life can be hard, but I am THANKFUL that my God has seen it all and is the architect, so no matter what may happen, when I am obedient to His calling, my prayers shall be answered.
“Obedience is a word and concept from which the valiant look for their deliverance.” ~ Anonymous
“I have thought about it a great deal, and the more I think, the more certain I am that obedience is the gateway through which knowledge, yes, and love, too, enter the mind of the child.” ~ Anne Sullivan
“Does it make sense to pray for guidance about the future if we are not obeying in the thing that lies before us today? How many momentous events in Scripture depended on one person’s seemingly small act of obedience! Rest assured: Do what God tells you to do now, and, depend upon it, you will be shown what to do next.” ~ Elisabeth Elliot
Yesterday I was enlightened with a profound word from @pastorj_higherd in which he stated, “If you want to change your reality, you have to change your mentality.” Many times we allow our thoughts to cloud our vision and ultimately, destroy our destiny. Today, that cycle ends! (more…)
Going into the holiday season, there are many things that can provide inspiration, but there is nothing that motivates more than listening to our elder statesman. A constant source of knowledge and wisdom, it is our elders who have blazed the trails we now travel. You want to find motivation, ask your grandparents what they had to endure so you could have the opportunities you take for granted. You want inspiration, ask someone twice your age how much they were able to accomplish with less than half the resources you have at your disposal. You want to truly learn what it means to have appreciation, ask anyone over sixty how much it means to see you chase your dreams when they were denied basic civil liberties.
Motivation is at your fingertips – a phone call or a visit away. This holiday season, I would like to thank all those that sacrificed so that I may be able to pursue my passion and have the chance to live out my purpose. As you are celebrating the holidays, take a moment to thank those that persevered and overcame so that we could live out our dreams. Then take up the mantle and make sure the torch stays lit for the next generation.
“If you wish to succeed in life, make perseverance your bosom friend, experience your wise counselor, caution your elder brother, and hope your guardian genius.” ~ Joseph Addison
Today, I am most THANKFUL for the struggle. Through struggle I discovered that I am greater than imagined and the only limitations I have are those that I impose on myself. I am capable beyond measure and with obstacles, we gain experience and with experience, we build wisdom and wisdom translates into inner peace and greater understanding. For that I am most grateful and because of that, I hope to share my experiences and knowledge with as many as I can. Life is never promised to be without strife, turmoil, or rainy days. But it does promise to be adventurous, ever-changing, challenging and when seen properly, it can offer everything one desires and so much more. Today, I am thankful for the heartaches, downfalls, trials, and all things thought to be bad that have led to victory, growth, newfound awareness, and fortified my purpose in life!
What are you thankful for today and how has life’s challenges shaped you into the person you are now?
