As a #NewYear dawns on us, so does new hopes, aspirations, and resolutions. With each comes an invigorated spirit of excitement and dedication, but unfortunately by early February, many of us have loss enthusiasm or completely abandoned the plan. Thinking of what I hope to accomplish to do this year, I must say I have an aggressive list of things I would like to accomplish and although each is very achievable, it will require discipline, proper time management, and continued prayer.
No matter what resolution or promise you have made to yourself or others, remember each day is its own opportunity. Start small and work toward the big stuff. You did not gain that weight overnight, nor will you lose it overnight; it took longer than a week to accumulate the clutter in the house, so do not think you will blink your eyes and it will disappear either. Obtaining goals are more about the process than it is the timeframe. Anything that is done consistently becomes habit and habits become building blocks.
Focus on building good habits and watch the #ToDoList check itself off. And if you are having a hard time figuring out where to start, please take a moment to look over #30ThingsYouMightWantToStartDoingForYourself by Darryl Ricardo Matthews, Sr – @32ndGP. With any endeavor, it is always good to begin within and these 30 reminders are essential building blocks to life goals!
No matter what this year holds, do not lose hope and do not give up. Remember each day may bring its own obstacles, but it also presents new opportunities. (more…)
When God pushes you to the edge of difficulty, trust Him fully because two things can happen. Either He can catch you when you fall or He will teach you how to fly!
Are you familiar with the story of the mother eagle? She provides a nest for her eaglets, nurturing them, feeding them, protecting, and ensuring that they are well taken care of and have an opportunity to grow and experience what life has to offer. But this is not a lifelong setting and soon the realities of life start to unfold. Soon the mother eagle will take her offspring in her mouth, fly out the nest and release them! As the baby eagle begins to descend, she swoops in, catching them and returning them to the nest. The process is repeated over and over and she begins to disassemble the nest in the process as well.
The purpose is multi-faceted:
1.) Encourage the offspring to fly and fulfill their potential. By dropping them, they quickly learn how fleeing life can be and how at a moment’s notice you could be sitting up high and have it all come tumbling down. In order to soar in life, you have to spread your wings and fly.
2.) To show them that life is not about being comfortable and no matter how much others may provide a comfortable environment, at some point each of us has to leave home and discover our own paths.
3.) That no matter how far we fall, those that love us and care about us will be there to catch us no matter what. We all will fall short and at one point or another come crashing down, but there will still be those who care who will be there to soften the blow and rescue us for certain doom.
4.) To not be afraid of our potential and even if we are afraid, to overcome it. We each have to discover who we are and what we are capable of and the only way to do that is my stepping out on faith!
Like the eaglets, many of us want to be at ease, no difficulties, and coasting through life, but it is the challenges of life that shape us and mold us into who we are destined to become. Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.
The challenge today is to let go of anything or anyone that is holding you back, anything that is stopping your from fulfilling your destiny, anything that is prevented you from spreading your wings and flying. If it is not challenging you, it is not growing you, and anything that is not growing you is causing you to become stagnant and decay. As uncomfortable and frightening as the ledge may seem, it isn’t until you take that leap that you realize you don’t have to fall, but instead roam the sky and discover new horizons.
“In the ashes of adversity, lies opportunity.” ~ S.L. Coelho
Life’s challenges will test you at every turn, try to break you, and will push you beyond anything you thought you could handle or was willing to deal with. Guess what, IT’S LIFE! It is meant to test your mettle, grow you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, tear you apart at times and reinvent you at others. The beauty of life is that every day you wake up it’s another opportunity to experience something you have never experienced before, get that much closer to obtaining you goals, and more importantly, learning to navigate life and achieve maximum happiness. What many learn through life’s experiences is that you reap what you sow and whatever life you desire, it is at your fingertips if you desire matches you drive.
Take heed of the mantras below, utilize them, memorize them, apply them to your everyday. Life may knock you down, but keep getting up.
The time is here and now! There is no better time than the present and you already have everything you need. God has blessed you with a plan and a purpose. What are you waiting for? “Perfection paralyzes potential,” as I heard a wise man state and if you’re waiting for the perfect timing, perfect situation, perfect person, then you’re only prohibiting the possibilities and prolonging a self-imposed purgatory.
That job you’re seeking, go for it! The relationship you desire, pursue it! The changes you want in your life, start making them happen. The only thing holding you back is YOU. All the excuses and doubts are no longer. The only thing that matters is reaching your goals and the actions needed to bring those goals to fruition. You are powerful beyond measure and your life’s experiences have prepared you for this moment. You are ready, so please get out of your own way.
The only moment we will ever have is the present moment. Don’t waste or forsake it and don’t wait for another moment that may never come. There are three things in life that once they are gone, you can never get back – words, opportunity, and time. Don’t waste any of them. Let your words be the blueprint that answers opportunity’s knock right on time. There are also three things in life that never fail – belief, determination, and love. Believe in yourself and be determined enough to pursue the love burning inside you NOW!
I saw a sign recently that read, “A Thankful Heart is a Happy Heart.” How àpropos. The more we think, the more we thank©. The brighter our spirits become, the more the burdens dissolve and the faster our hearts and souls fill with joy. Proverbs 23:7 reads, “For as one thinks in his heart, so is he.” The mind is the most powerful tool God gave man and mere thoughts can change a person’s outlook on life and transform the world around them. Today I am so THANKFUL for peace of mind and a happy heart! To have calmness despite being in the midst of storms, to know that in every trial there is a lesson to be learned, and realize that despite any setbacks, tomorrow presents an opportunity to improve and grow, is a purposeful choice to choose happiness and gratefulness and not succumb to life’s heartaches and tragedies. What a blissful and THANKFUL thought! Let today start the transformation of your thoughts and life. Life will present you with many moments of despair, but that’s just it, they are ONLY moments. Choose to minimize the moment and maximize the potential to gain self-actualization and self-improvement. Think about all the blessings you have, look at how far you’ve come and imagine how far you’ve yet to go, envision happiness and greatness let it be the catalyst of THANKFULNESS. As cliché as it may be, we truly are what we think. When you begin to think, began to thank, and watch your world morph and take a paradigm shift turning into a masterpiece of beauty, joy, and unparalleled happiness. #Think2Thank
We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. ~ Buddha
~ Dedicated to the memory and legacy of Rev. Michael P. Jacques, S.S.E., a priest and pillar of a community and city, an activist and advocate for Jesus Christ and his fellow man, a father, uncle, brother, and friend, who showed love to whomever crossed his path, who smiled through life’s worst times, taught others how to not only overcome, but to reach new heights, who fought for the downtrodden and less fortunate, who cared for the elderly and indigent, and who lived a life that exemplified Jesus’ love, grace, mercy, and mission of servitude. He will be missed by many, but the life he led taught us all what life is truly about and how to make the most out of the lives we’ve been given. Love you Fr.
