Motivational Monday

Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven…

Did you know you were appointed and anointed specifically and intentionally just for this season?  It was on purpose, for a purpose and with purpose that God saw fit to give you this task.  It was not by accident or coincidence that you find yourself in this place and at this time.  This is your assignment!

When you have been appointed, that means someone (Christ) has decided beforehand that you were the right person for the job.  You were designated to fulfill the purpose.  And if Christ decided beforehand that you were the candidate for the job, rest assured that He went ahead and removed any obstacles, put the necessary people in place to assist you, and provided you with all the tools and provisions needed to accomplish the goal!  Those that are appointed have already been equipped and furnished with all they need and given gifts and talents they have yet to discover.

A new Supreme Court Justice is appointed by the President and goes through a vetting process conducted by the Senate before being confirmed and officially taking a seat on the Supreme Court.  But isn’t it good news to know that once God appoints you, you have already been found acceptable and more than capable of fulfilling the duties of your assignment!

Not only have you been appointed, but you have also been anointed.  That simply means you have been marked, nominated, conferred, given the seal of approval, because when God appointed you, He most definitely anointed you!  “He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” 2 Corinthians 1:21-22.  God set you apart, specially and wonderfully made for just this reason.  Everything God does is on purpose, there is not one wasted act, and what He does is with a purpose in mind – to grow His people so that they may in turn reach someone else.

As the scripture reads, God “guaranteed what is to come,” so He knew ahead of time exactly where you would be at this moment in life.  Knowing the end before the beginning, He appointed you anyway, called you by name, and consecrated you, anointing you to be blessed and be a blessing to others.  So the next time you are wondering, “why me,” just remember that this is your designated time and you have been chosen to see it through, but the path has already been searched and cleared and you have been given every resource needed to succeed!

Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom.  Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power. ~ Tao Te Ching

There are things in this world that once obtained, can never be taken away – knowledge, purpose, and love to name a few.

Knowledge like power is harnessed by a desire to grow, expand, to live beyond circumstances and situations, and once you get a taste of it, it is invigorating and empowering.  Knowledge helps us not only on an intellectual plain, but also in our spiritual realm.  The more self aware you become, the more you learn about the psyche of others, and the more verse you become on multiple topics, the quicker and better you are at adapting and adjusting to the many twists of life.

Knowledge is the sibling of purpose, because as you begin to learn, you begin to discover and it is on this journey that purpose is revealed and realized!  Knowledge breeds passion and passion equates to purpose and purpose births love.  Love is the byproduct of purpose as it stems from those things we are most passionate about.

Love is the result of pursuing purpose and can never be taken away.  The misconception is that love fails or diminishes, but the truth of the matter is that love is an energy that shifts as we do.  Love is not necessarily for the recipient but all about the giver as it is a manifestation of an inward impulse.  It is spontaneous, unpredictable, consuming, liberating, and fulfilling and once given, it does the exact same for those that receive it!  Love is the end result we all desire no matter the pursuit.

There are also things in this world that cannot be taken back once squandered – time and words.

Time is one commodity that cannot be bought or sold, you cannot get a return on it or recycle it, and once gone, you will never see again.  Use the time you have to maximize the desires of your heart.  Time wasted is an opportunity unfulfilled, but time used properly is a bottomless well of gratitude and thankfulness.

In the same breath (pun intended), choose your words carefully.  Words can either build or destroy and it is a wise person who not only knows the difference, but also practices the principles.  Our words are sharp double-edged swords that can cut, defend, free, or keep in bondage ourselves and others.  A harsh word may be forgiven, but will surely not be forgotten.  A kind word will not be forgotten, but will also break down walls and free people from captivity.  It is a foolish man who uses words only to admonish, but it takes a wise man to let his words polish.

Hold tightly and guard those things that can never be taken away as they become roots of our tree that bear good fruit.  And likewise, consciously remain aware of not forfeiting what can never be regained, as they too reflect who we are and will become and the fruit we shall bear.

Purpose In the Pain

BrotherWord - Purpose In the Pain

This pain I feel is wearing me down, how much turmoil can one person endure before they begin to drown.  One thing is for sure, either you are going through, about to go through, or just coming out the storm, but before you give in, it’s after when the sun comes out and rainbows are born.  There’s purpose in this pain and lessons learned, what didn’t kill has not only made me stronger, but made me wiser and for that, I no longer have to yearn. ~ BrotherWord

Pain attacks in a multitude of ways and affects us in all areas of our lives – physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual.  Pain is one of those things that is inevitable, but what is often missed and overlooked is that even in the pain, there is still purpose.

Pain in the physical form brings forth a reaction from the central nervous system telling us that something is uncomfortable, does not feel well, is conflicting with our body.  When our body aches, it triggers the mind to do something different or stop altogether, cease whatever action is causing the pain, but anyone who has ever worked out, trained, done any physical activity, will tell you that is not until you push through the pain that you begin to conquer the mind and your body.  As much as pain may warn you, it can also trick you into prematurely quitting.  If you succumb to the pain, how would you know how far you could go, how much you can achieve, how would you discover the deeper purpose.

Emotional pain is even more debilitating.  An emotional blow can cause a ripple effect that will destroy the psyche and the physical if allowed.  Emotional wounds attack the deepest recesses of our mind and cause us to doubt others and ourselves, retreat from the world, and at worse become recluse and anti-social.  Some of this can be diagnosed as chemical imbalances or mental breakdowns and require medication and therapy, yet there are so many more instances of people being disappointed, hurt, betrayed by someone else or even feeling inadequate and having a self-loathing demeanor.  It is painful to think you are alone, no one cares, or everyone is against you, but do not let the pain fool you into thinking you do not have purpose or were not created for a purpose.  The greatest trick of the enemy is to make you believe you are inadequate, your life is irrelevant, and you have no worth.  The devil is a liar!  Discovering purpose breeds a renewed energy, it invigorates and revitalizes, the purpose in the pain is knowing that despite what the world my say or, you have confidence knowing that you were created on purpose for a purpose!

Spiritual pain can possibly be the most devastating and dangerous because at this point you have lost hope and any reason for carrying on.  A pain such as this will not only cripple, but can possibly lead to internal and eternal condemnation.  To lose hope in life, in others, and self means you have given up and given into the pain.  The misnomer about pain that escapes us all is that pain is temporary!  It will not last forever nor will it always be painful, because the same thing that once caused you pain may very well be the same thing that elevates you to your purpose.  When you feel like quitting, don’t!  It is at that very moment when breakthrough happens, revelation takes place, and your are enriched and enlightened.  It is at the moment of last hope and desperation that we discover inner strength and realize that all the pain we endured was meant to strengthen and never to break us.

On the mountaintop we get to bask in our achievements, but it is in the valleys where the lessons are truly learned.  It is in the pain that we discover what we are truly made of and also why we are experiencing the pain.  If you are willing to endure, to tarry just a little longer, I promise you that on the other side of pain, you will discover a greater purpose!  Do not get me wrong, pain is not fun and no matter the target, physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual, it hurts.  Just know that it is temporary.  If you just started exercising, at first it will hurt, there will be pain.  But if you continue and push through, inevitably you will see the desired results and the pain will dissipate.  No different when tackling emotional or spiritual pain.  Do not succumb… OVERCOME!

Anyone that is feeling the pains of life, please hang on!  Pain reminds us we are still alive, alerts us there is still fight left, is an alarm to the brain, heart, and thoughts, letting us know we are near our purpose.  Pain is no more than a prelude to finding purpose!  Do not believe me?  During childbirth, a woman suffers what may be the most excruciating pain of her life, her body literally being stretched and ripped apart, yet she endures the labor.  And if labor can be defined as physical or mental exertion, a painful or arduous work, especially one that is difficult and exhausting, cannot the birth of that child not be deemed purpose – the very reason why something is done, a determined, resolute outcome.  In other words, your labor is not in vain because what is birth was worth any pain!

Your pain is a divine right of passage through which you will be reborn as a being of strength, wisdom, and purpose.

Thankful Thursdays

BrotherWord - Thankful

“Work for a cause, not for applause. Live life to express, not to impress. Don’t strive to make your presence noticed just make your absence felt.” ~ Unknown

THANKFUL today for purpose, for not only discovering that purpose, but having the courage to pursue and no longer run from it.  Purpose can be a scary and tricky thing, but rest assured, it is a divine order and when you chase your purpose you discover your truest self and fulfill your every dream.  Tell me that isn’t something to be THANKFUL for!

Challenging each of you to discover your purpose, what you have been designed and built for and then go after it with everything in you.  You owe it to yourself to live out your dreams and live life to the fullest and ultimately, to be happy and THANKFUL for all that comes along with a life lived on purpose.

It is a double entendre when you really think about it.  If you are living a life on purpose then you are (1.) living the life you were destined to achieve and what was meant for you since conception; and (2.) if you are living your life on purpose, you are intentionally making strives towards greatness, to discovering what life has to offer, and making a concerted effort to be all that you are supposed to be.  Again, is a purpose driven life not something to be THANKFUL for!

Let your purpose in life define you and not life define your purpose.  What you do in this world should make an impact, leave a mark, change at least one life for the better, and someone should be that more THANKFUL for having known you.  Purpose can have three different meanings – to do something with determination, to have an aim or goal, or having a function, role or use.  As you continue to live your life on purpose, it should encompass them all.  Be determined to reach your goals as you aim for greatness while being used to enrich the lives of others.

Be THANKFUL for your purpose and watch everything around you blossom.

Thankful Thursday!

BrotherWord - ThankfulDiscover God’s purpose and dreams for you.  Take steps forward in obedience, enjoy the adventure along the way, and be thankful for it all. ~BrotherWord

You may find it hard to be THANKFUL when life keeps kicking you in the teeth and at every turn failure continues to loom, but I can guarantee you that on your worse day, there is someone out there who would trade with you in a heartbeat.  Life can be a cruel and relenting piece of work, but you are far greater than anything life can throw at you.

So THANKFUL that I was made in His image, made to be a conqueror, made to be great, made to overcome, and made to win!  One of the hardest things to absorb, let alone live by, is understanding that obedience is better than sacrifice and being obedient even when it makes no sense and is incomprehensible, is a feat in and of itself.  But my God!  I am THANKFUL that with obedience comes favor and with favor comes the blessings of God.  Walking in God’s will can be a complex conundrum wrapped in an enigma, yet it is a fulfilling journey that cannot be replicated or replaced.  That is more than enough to be THANKFUL for on any given day!

Tomorrow when everything seems to hit a nerve, when the traffic is moving too slow, co-workers become annoying, family is losing their minds, and the walls are closing in, remember this too shall pass and because of your obedience in fulfilling your purpose, you have already claimed the victory.  Be THANKFUL for the noise because it is an opportunity to calm the hysteria; be THANKFUL for the chaos because it is God’s way of putting life back in order; and be THANKFUL for the unknown, because it is in the wilderness that we find direction, purpose, strength, courage, and gain knowledge.

Yes, life can be hard, but I am THANKFUL that my God has seen it all and is the architect, so no matter what may happen, when I am obedient to His calling, my prayers shall be answered.

“Obedience is a word and concept from which the valiant look for their deliverance.” ~ Anonymous

“I have thought about it a great deal, and the more I think, the more certain I am that obedience is the gateway through which knowledge, yes, and love, too, enter the mind of the child.” ~ Anne Sullivan

“Does it make sense to pray for guidance about the future if we are not obeying in the thing that lies before us today? How many momentous events in Scripture depended on one person’s seemingly small act of obedience! Rest assured: Do what God tells you to do now, and, depend upon it, you will be shown what to do next.” ~ Elisabeth Elliot

Motivational Monday

Fotor_145252153992384There is no greater motivation than LIFE itself!  Tomorrow is not promised to anyone and at any giving moment, it can come to an end.  Today’s Motivational Monday is as personal as it gets as five years later I reflect on my sister who unknowingly helped to birth BrotherWord and all that has come to fruition.

The people around us affect us in so many ways without them even knowing and through those interactions, we discover who we are, what we are about, and in that rare occasion, they help us to unearth our God-given purpose.  Through my sister I learned that life is what we make of it, the lives we touch, and that fulfilling God’s purpose is the truest route to not only happiness on earth, but everlasting joy and peace.

Find what and whom motivates you to be your best and then latch on to them, learn from them, ask them questions, and most importantly, take the time to let them know that their life has and is making a difference on your life in return.  This thing we call life is shorter than we think and fleeing, so give those you love and cherish their flowers while they are breathing.

5 years and running and still wondering why. Still questioning God, “Why she’s not still alive?  Why she had to die?  Yet no more tears left to cry.

How do you mourn when there’s so much pain?  When the grief hits so hard from just mentioning her name?

Where do you find comfort when you cannot find peace?  The memories begin to fade, the voice becomes a whisper, when the agony never seems to cease.

How do you begin to move forward when the past keeps dragging you back? How do you let go of the hurt when every waking moment seems like an anxiety attack?

Look to the heavens from which your blessings flow, remember what you reap is also what you sow.  But when I look upward all I want is to see her face, but instead the clouds hide her and and I find myself in an empty space.

I’m thankful to God for the time spent, the laughter, the conversations, the hugs and the kisses, but what do you do when all you can think about is how much you miss her?

Counseling, communication, and church, nothing fills the void; and here we are 5 years later and it still feels like yesterday, one continuing, horrible nightmare, that has come forth to steal, kill, and destroy.

But the devil is a liar and my Christ is the forever joy that can make us whole, because even in death, Melissa transformed lives and saved countless souls.

5 years later and yes it still hurts, but as God as my witness and my sister as my motivation, I must continue their great works!

We each have a purpose and my angel’s work was done, so now it is up to us all to pick up the mantle and make sure that we complete our task before the setting of the sun.

Can never repay her for all that she gave nor all that she means, so I will live my life in her honor, never forgetting the love we share or the unbreakable bond, knowing she watches over me and I can see her my dreams.

Rest in paradise baby, you fought and won the battle, and Heaven is your reward.  Know that you taught your big brother more than you could ever know and now I live for us both as I edify our Lord.

Rest in paradise on your birthday as we blow out the candles wishing you nothing but peace; and know how much we love you and your memory and legacy shall live on and never cease.  © ~BrotherWord

Motivational Monday

BrotherWord - Passion

Passion is an intense emotion, a compelling enthusiasm or desire, it is that thing that wakes you in the morning springing you out of the bed and keeps you up late at night focused on accomplishing all that you have set out to do.  Passion is what fuels the purpose and marries the two to change potential to a fulfilled promise!  Passion is the catalyst that sparks our hopes, dreams, and aspirations and drives you to achieve the unbelievable, obtain the unthinkable, and shatter any notions of doubt and fear.  What you are passionate about is what has been inbred in you and powers the journey ahead.  What is that you are passionate about?

Whatever you are passionate about, that one thing in this world you literally would do for free if there were no obstacles or fear of failure, follow it, pursue it, live in it, for it is there that you will not only find purpose, but also walk in God’s promise for your life.  God has given each of us specific talents and specific tools to accomplish a specific task.  Do not waste your tools or let them go rusty!  Walk in your purpose and feed off your passion; the promise will not come back void!

I challenge each of you to trust whatever it is that moves you and excites you, research it, study it, practice it, and use it!  It is there for a reason, so stop running from it and denying it.  Live the life that was purposed for you and soak up every bit of it.  Let your passion light up the world and all you encounter leaving a mark that will transcend and surpass your wildest fantasies.  You are more than if only you believe.

Living on #Purpose fueled by #Passion and striving towards #Destiny.  Have you found your passion?  Are you ready to channel it to achieve your dreams?

Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams.” ~ Donovan Bailey

BrotherWord - Challenge

Life is one challenge after another and just when you think you have passed one test, here comes another.  Each challenge is meant to push you to the next level, to test your mental and physical acumen, and to help you grow and change. But are you ready for the challenge?

Truthfully, none of us are quite ready for the challenges we will face, but rest assured, each of us is properly equipped to handle them, even if we do not think so.  There is a plan and a purpose in the process and it is up to us to persist in order to prevail.  Every challenge is meant as a stepping stone for us to reach new heights, but in order to move up you have to be willing to take the first step and then not be afraid to continue the course.  No one started out on top.  Every professional was once an amateur and every expert started out as a novice.  So what makes you think it would be any different for you?

Change is inevitable, but how you adapt to and apply what transpires makes all the difference.  Do not fear change, do not run from it, do not rebel against it.  Whether you can see it now or not, change is good and it is the only way we can progress and elevate our lives.  If it does not challenge you, it probably is not productive or progressive either.  Do not limit your challenges, challenge your limits!

“Challenges are what make life interesting.  Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” ~ Joshua J. Marine

Thankful Thursdays!

BrotherWord - Another Chance

I am so THANKFUL for another chance!  Can you imagine where you would be if you only had one chance to get it right, if the only opportunity you have is based on the first choice you made?  How THANKFUL and grateful I am to have another chance to get it right.

We won’t always make the best decisions and sometimes even the best decisions will not have the greatest results,   but how splendid is it to have another chance to learn the lesson and take another crack at fulfilling our destiny.  For that, I am truly THANKFUL.  So THANKFUL that with the rising of the sun and each new day, I have another chance to right the wrongs and pursue my purpose.

THANKFUL that each breath I take is a breath of fresh air to revitalize and replenish and provide another chance to breathe new life into my situations.  I am THANKFUL that the mistakes I made didn’t condemn my future, but instead provided invaluable lessons.  I am THANKFUL that I am better prepared for the future and better equipped for what may arise.

Every day is a second chance, another chance, a blessing, a do-over, a mulligan, a reset, a reprieve, a fresh start to rewrite our history and pursue our dreams.  I am THANKFUL for another chance to make my dreams come true.  I am THANKFUL that God saw fit to give me another chance and not end my story where I failed.

How have you grown from another chance?  How has another chance shaped your life?  How THANKFUL are you for another chance?  Share your “another chance” stories with BrotherWord as they will no doubt encourage and bless others to know that just because we make mistakes and fall short, that does not mean that is where our story has to end.
