Thankful Thursdays!

BrotherWord - Thankful Thursdays!

I am so THANKFUL for the power within, the power to reach deep and manifest the energy, the strength, and the courage to continue and to overcome.  I am so THANKFUL for He that is in me that enables, encourages, and enlightens me to become all that I can possibly become and more than I ever imagined.  We all possess this power, this innate trait.  It’s literally in the palm of our hands, the recess of our minds, and the pits of our spirit.  It’s simply a matter of bringing it to the forefront.  It’s about not having to summon it only in times of need, but living in that place continually, always exhibiting the abilities that have been birthed in you.  It’s about living the dream and not always chasing it and making the most of everyday, because you are truly THANKFUL for every part of your life.  It’s a mindset and a purposeful walk, knowing who you are and all you are capable of.  You are more powerful than you ever imagined and although you may not be able to leap tall buildings, run faster than a speeding bullet, or have x-ray vision, you are SUPER!  Be THANKFUL for the gifts you do have and don’t be afraid to share them with the world.

Every great dream begins with a dreamer.  Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. ~ Harriet Tubman

To dream anything that you want to dream. That’s the beauty of the human mind. To do anything that you want to do. That is the strength of the human will. To trust yourself to test your limits. That is the courage to succeed. ~ Bernard Edmonds

BrotherWord - Thankful Thursday

In the wake of the tragedy in Moore, Ok. earlier this week it is easy to succumb to the destruction and disaster that has shaken that community.  It’s another catastrophic event that reminds us of the frailty of life.  All of our prayers collectively go out and as a nation, we will support our brethren and restore what has been broken, whether its houses, schools, communities, or spirits.  And here lies the beauty and all that we have to be THANKFUL for.  Dire situations bring out the best in all of us and show the character of our fellow man.  Look at the outpouring from around the country, listen to the citizens in Moore who despite the mass destruction around them, have continued to express how THANKFUL they still remain.  It warms BrotherWord’s heart to see the spirit of THANKFULNESS shine through the worst of situations and people from all around the world, from all races & ethnicities, reaching out to lend whatever aid is necessary.  From first responders, to national aid organizations, to professional athletes and entertainers, to John Q has made strives to let Moore, Ok. know we stand with them.

If the community of Moore can find hope in the eye of the storm, we too can find hope in the midst of our tragedies.  Rainbows only happen where there is rain.  So, when life rains on your day and brings a storm into your world, remember the sun shall rise and your future is brighter than your past!  Being THANKFUL is a mindset and choosing to find the beauty in an ugly situation, the hope in despair, and the light in darkness is a trait we all possess and prayerfully take advantage of more often than not.  Today and everyday, choose THANKFULNESS and watch your storm go away and your world shine!

Thankful Thursday!

 BrotherWord - Thankful Thursdays!

Today I’m thankful for the doubters and the naysayers,
For the skeptics and the haters,
For those that said I would never amount to anything or make it.
For those that tried to break me down, but never broke my spirit,
Those who criticized, but couldn’t see I was gifted.
You ridiculed and tried to demoralize,
Never knowing you were helping me grow, contributing to my rise.
Took some lumps and let you think you had won,
But I always knew just like the morning dew, I’d rise like the sun.
So thank you for not believing, thank you for thinking I was defeated,
You fed the fire within and made me reach deeper.
No animosity, no hard feelings, I wish you all the best,
You are my inspiration and why I plan to reach and teach the rest.
You too can overcome, you too can catch your dream,
All you need is faith, perseverance, and belief in one’s self; the perfect team.
Take that first step, keep moving, put one foot in front the other,
The haters will hate, but as long as you keep moving that hate diminishes further.
Be Thankful for it all, the ups and downs, the good and the bad,
The best is yet to come and right now is your launchpad!  ©

FEAR

Again our country, our community, has been struck with a senseless act of violence.  The people in the Boston area have been shaken and their sense of security has been forever marred and tarnished.

What started out as Patriot’s day, a holiday in Massachusetts celebrating the first battles of the American Revolutionary War, quickly turned into another national tragedy.  The casualties may not have been on the same level as 9/11 or the massacre in Newtown, CT., but the brashness and lack of empathy for human life by the perpetrators is no different and that impact is equally destructive.  The Boston Marathon, which was supposed to be the culmination of the holiday’s festivities, turned into a media and law enforcement frenzy as everyone became glued to their televisions, computer, and phones waiting for updates and praying collectively for the nightmare to be over.

The fear caused by this heinous act is trickling throughout the country like a rock skipping across a pond causing a ripple effect.  Every sporting event following the marathon has quadrupled security and taken extra measures to give the participants a safe environment.  But what is more astonishing, the participants are still coming out!  No one has shied away, in fact, they’ve come out stronger, in droves, exhibiting the sense of pride and resiliency this country in known for. What you meant for evil…

Let it be said again, we won’t coward in fear or run and hide!  We will overcome and rise again.  Yes, it’s disheartening and devastating, but it will not be debilitating!  Like 9/11, Newtown, Virginia Tech, and so many others, we will rally together, support those that have been struck with grief and loss, and build anew and greater.  These acts of violence will not deter or diminish our spirit of patriotism nor discourage our goals to be a better country.  If anything, it creates a stronger bond, connects us on a deeper level, and fortifies the American collective of one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all!
