I am THANKFUL for the stars, no not the ones in the sky, but the ones on the radio and small and big screens who continue to show out;
Because of you I’ve come to realize that being rich has nothing to do with fame, money, or clout.
See I watch you degrade yourselves, belittle each other, and pretend to make ratchet seem cool;
But at the end of the day, everyone laughing at you, not with you, dragging your name through the mud, and looking at you sideways because you decided to play the fool.
For what though? A little notoriety, a few more coins, to become a household name?
Well baby if that’s how the “other side” lives, if that is what it takes to be in the “inner circle,” I’m just fine in my own lane.
I refuse to allow someone else to define me or determine my worth;
I’m a child of the Most High and what He blessed me with is way more important than 15 minutes in the spotlight on the earth.
I am THANKFUL that being humbled didn’t take my life but instead put me on the right path;
Even when I lost it all and was at my lowest, I still realize that what I have now is far greater than what I ever had.
I am THANKFUL that whatever did not kill me has truly made me stronger;
THANKFUL that I am not consumed by keeping up with the Joneses or trying to impress the Smiths, and the things that used to move me, just don’t any longer.
So THANK you for showing that fame and fortune is not all it’s cracked up to be if it means losing your soul;
I’d rather play the background, enjoy the journey, and count my blessings while remaining in control.
Not worried about likes on social media, plugs on the radio, or a Nielsen rating;
Instead I am THANKFUL because of you I am not the one being dictated to or exploited, but the one who is creating.
Who you see is who you will be. ~ BrotherWord
Vision without action is no more than a dream. Dreams are the beginning of aspirations, illuminating, invigorating, a oftentimes, inspiring. However, a dream that is not followed by work shall forever remain dormant. Dreams are important, but vision is vital. Think of your vision as your blueprint to your destiny and it all revolves around how you see yourself.
Vision is cast as we live in the moment. Sounds crazy, a bit off doesn’t it? How do I prepare for the future and thrive in the present at the same time? How am I supposed to plan for tomorrow if I am supposed to concentrate and focus on today. Think of it as a road trip. You know your destination, where you are trying to get to, but how to get there is the key. Like a map, so is your life. Devise a plan, anticipate roadblocks and traffic, navigate the roads, look both ways, stay alert, and pray for traveling grace. In order to reach your destination, you first have to get into your vehicle (live the dream); start the engine (become fired up about the possibilities); buckle up (the road may get rough and there will be setbacks along the way); make sure the tank is full (pour into your dream and surround yourself with a team that will pour into you as well); and finally, began to accelerate (get moving and start making strives toward accomplishing all you have set out to achieve). In no time, you will reach your destination.
The subconscious is the mirror to the soul and the eyes are its windows. How you see yourself, how you perceive your worth and purpose, will ultimately determine if you reach your destination. We already know that everyone may not align with, support, or last as we make our journey, but we can never forget who we are or why we are doing it. If your subconscious is the mirror, be willing to look within, search your soul for clarity, direction, and courage, and know without a shadow of a doubt that the only person who can steer the course of your life, is the one staring back at you in the mirror. Be willing to dig deep and pull out your best! Let your eyes be the windows to opportunity, open and inviting, and the barriers to block anything unwanted and undesired. But don’t be deceived either by what you see. Remember the grass is not always as green as it may appear and there are no shortcuts despite how enticing either may seem. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Remain faithful that your vision will come to fruition. Who you see is who you will be and when your vision aligns with your work ethic, the reflection will be a magnificent sight to behold.
Life is a constant test that will pull you in directions you never intended to go, that will challenge you beyond anything you ever thought you were capable of enduring, and will break you down and build you up all at the same time. Life is the ultimate test, a test full of irony and enigmas. It is the only test in which you don’t know the answers until after you have taken the test.
The beauty of life though is that it provides a testimony from the test, an experience to draw back upon and recall for posterity. The lessons learned through daily living are irreplaceable and often times, inspiring. The trials we face may seem insurmountable, but as Nelson Mandela is quoted as saying, “Difficulties break some men, but make others.” How we handle life’s difficulties will ultimately determine the path we travel.
Hardships are never pleasant, but they can be building blocks. Take the time to understand that life will happen and not everything can be controlled, but the one thing we all have control over is ourselves. Work toward solutions and not dwelling in sorrow. Mandela also said, “I am the master of my fate and the captain of my destiny,” and while in prison he recited daily William Ernest Henley’s poem, Invictus.
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
Do not let the trials of life stop you from becoming the person you are destined to become or achieving all that has been purposed for your life. Inspiration and motivation abounds around us, as well as the tools necessary to persevere and reach new plateaus. Today is your day to turn your test into a testimony!
The City They Tried to Forget…
There are simply some things in life you have no control over and despite every effort, cannot control. 8 years ago to the day, the city I love and cherish, my birthplace and stomping ground, was devastated and almost wiped from existence. Touching down during the early morning hours, the storm flooded 80% of the city, destroying the levee system, and turned a vibrant city into wasteland. The aftermath that ensued left many homeless, helpless, and hopeless. What happened next was worse.
What are you willing to sacrifice to attain your dream? What lengths are you willing to go to bring your vision to life? If money was not an issue or deterrent, what would you do for a living? Whatever that answer is for you, START DOING IT RIGHT NOW! You know your purpose and have a glimpse of the destiny ahead. Stop letting bumps destroy the dream. Pain is a good thing at times; it reminds us that we’re alive and we can overcome. Embrace the challenges, the obstacles, and the perils of life. They are temporary and they are building blocks to better your future. Whatever it is that has been ignited in your soul, take control of that fire and let it simmer. The hotter it gets, like gold, the better you shine; like a hot air balloon, the higher you rise; and like a volcano, the greater you erupt. Today is the day to become all you know you can be and to take hold of your own destiny!“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.” ~ Vince Lombardi “When I dare to be powerful – to use my strength in the service of my vision – then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” ~ Audre Lorde
