“Success is a planned outcome, not an accident. Success and mediocrity are both absolutely predictable because they follow the natural and immutable law of sowing and reaping. Simply stated, if you want to reap more rewards, you must sow more service, contribution, and value. That is the no-nonsense formula. Some of God’s blessings have prerequisites! Success in life is not based on need but on seed. So you’ve got to become good at either planting in the springtime or begging in the fall.” ~
Tom Newberry from Success Is Not an Accident: Change Your Choices; Change Your Life
Success does not happen by accident nor does it simply fall out the sky into one’s lap. Success is based on effort, work, and honestly, being prepared when opportunity presents itself. Any successful person will tell you it took years of trying, overcoming one failure after another, and continuing despite the odds or doubters. Success is the byproduct of resiliency.
Success is not something you can buy at a store, inherit, or just wake up. If you want it, you have to go get it! It begins with a mindset of “I refuse to quit or give up;” “I will not stop to achieve my goals;” “No matter what, I will not let it deter me from my destination.” As cliché as it may sound, how you think, what you think, will ultimately dictate your outcome. Can’t and won’t are not words of success, but will manifest if allowed.
What you sow is what you shall reap and sowing means planting good seed in fertile grounds and then tending to your crop. Success is not a part time or seasonal job, but a calculated journey. The next time you think it may be too much or feel you are not qualified, you are right! If you feel you are undeserving, cannot live up to it, the challenge is too great, you are right! But if you believe against all doubt, fight for your dreams, pursue with an unbridled passion, and put in maximum effort, success can and will be yours.
Recently there was a story about a McDonald’s employee who was swapping the happy meal toys with his mixtape. Crazy right? Definitely was not the market for the material he was attempting to promote and ultimately, it cost him his job, but I do applaud him for ingenuity and creativity.
Sometimes in order to advance and achieve your goals, you have to take risks… even if they appear completely insane. Risk takers are the ones that shape the world, the ones that revolutionize the way we think, and bring reality to what was once thought to be a far-fetched imagination. People thought the Wright brothers were delusional until they actually took flight. People once thought the Earth to be a flat surface until that myth was debunked. The world wide web was not even fathomable until a group of scientists, researchers, and engineers made it possible. The common denominator in all of these events and so many more that have shaped the world is that someone threw caution to the wind, believed in themselves and their dream, and despite all odds and doubts, set out to make history.
The McDonald’s employee chose the wrong platform to promote his music, but at least he took a chance on making something happen. If you are sitting around waiting for the right opportunity, you are fooling yourself. Opportunity happens with you are active. If you are scared to take risks, then you are content with failing. If you are consumed with what others think and how they will react, you will never discover who you truly are meant to be. You cannot live life worrying about what others will think nor can you go on with life always playing it safe.
Life is truly about calculated risks that produce phenomenal rewards. So the next time you are weighing the risk/reward scenario, keep in mind that if you never do, you will never know. People called Franklin a lunatic for his experimentations with electricity, but without him, we could possibly still be living in the dark ages!
“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” – Vince Lombardi
Anything worth having in life is worth giving your all to. Life is not an accident, it is earned! That dream you have, the passion burning inside, the goals you have set are all possible if you are willing to commit and strive for excellence. Nothing is impossible. When no one thought it was feasible to fly, Wilbur and Orville Wright believed it possible and did not stop until they achieved it. Are you not ready for your life to take flight, to soar to new heights, to experience things once only dreamed of? Then commit!
Commit with all your heart, all your desire, and all your energy. If it is truly your dream to accomplish whatever it may be, then it will take everything you have! The definition of commitment means to be dedicated, loyal to a person or cause, a promise. Make a promise to yourself today. Remain dedicated to the task and loyal to your ambitions. No matter what may arise, keep your promise. Commit to excellence and let nothing or no one deter you from your path. The worst promise to break is the one you make to yourself and if it is your desire, commit to it until it comes to pass. Commit like never before, lock in, and like a dog with a bone, do not let go! Whatever is meant for you, is for YOU! So no matter how long the journey, how many obstacles may arise, or whatever pops up along the way, remember what you committed to and why. Time to get to work!
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore is not an act, but a habit.” ~ Aristotle
“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” ~ Paul J. Meyer
“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” ~ Mario Andretti
As a man thinketh, so is he. Whatever consumes our mind, consumes our life and whatever constantly permeates our dreams, our thoughts, our conscious and subconscious, that is where our heart lies and what our energy goes toward. Once we begin controlling what controls our thoughts we will begin to see our lives shape in the ways in which we desire. The most powerful thing any of us possesses is the power of our mind. Anything we think can be achieved and vice versa, any doubts will allow to manifest can cripple and destroy.
An old Cherokee teaching his grandson about life told a story about a battle inside all of us. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too. ”The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
Which will you feed?
Life is full of mysteries and wonders, many of which cannot be explained and some, no matter how hard you may try, are beyond understanding and comprehension. And then there are the rare miracles, God’s treats and marvelous anomalies that no matter how bewildering to the mind, are amazing and spectacular nonetheless. It may be a rainbow in the middle of a storm, the birth of a child, or the dawning of a new day. These miracles, huge or small, still happen daily and unlike biblical times and such phenomenons as the parting of the red sea, they may not be as recognizable, but when they happen, you will still feel the effect. One miracle many saw and a lucky few were able to witness and experience up close and personal has been Khyrstin “Kyssi” Andrews. (more…)
This one is for those that said I shouldn’t, wouldn’t, or couldn’t. All I heard was maybe you should, if you don’t who would, truth be told, if you tried, you probably could… so I did
See, I do not deal in fractions, contractions, or misguided actions. So while you talking about what I won’t do, I ask… Why not? Who better than me?
Because I came from the wrong neighborhood, have a different background, or my skin pigmentation is too dark? Before you respond let me stop you because the question was rhetorical. My destiny comes from a greater power and no disrespect, but you do not set the mark.
They said it couldn’t be done…. so I had to prove them wrong. Have you heard #KendrickLamar’s “I?” It’s one of my favorite songs. Listening to “I,” I remember how much I love myself and that the opportunities are limitless. I can put these syllables together to make new sentences to open consciousness and destroy ignorance or better yet give hope to dreamers trapped in their own imprisonment. How dare you try to put me in a box for your experiment!
I am the son of Giza, the master of my fate. Even before I saw the light, I knew I would be great! You might catch that one later, but later might be too late. I appreciate the advice, but I will have to pass. Last thing I need is to be stifled by your lack of ambition, self-esteem issues, or the fact you can’t see the forest for the grass… just blind.
For the doubters, backstabbers, and those hating just to hate… Thank You. They say you never know how strong you are until it is all you have left and your doubt fueled the fire burning within so all my dreams would come true. ©
Whatever it is you desire in life you are going to have be better than good, better than the rest, able to withstand the trials and test, and give your very best. Life is not a free ride or for those not willing to give their all, but for those who dare to be great, life is an oasis.
Do not rest until you have achieved all you desire and all that has been promised to you. We all have been born with a purpose and potential and when desire meets dedication, destiny is bound to happen. Your best is all that is needed. Not what the next person is doing, not what you see others pursuing, not what someone else thinks is the path for you, but your best. That is all that is needed and if you are consistently giving your best, even when the outcome is not how you may have wanted, you still will have the satisfaction of knowing you did your part and all you could.
Also, surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you and not the stress in you. You want a team that pushes you to be your best and not settle for less. You want someone who challenges you to be greater than you imagined and not accept a mediocre life. You want a cast of go-getters and not those that are content with the status quo.
In this life, all we have is one shot. So, never let it rest until your good is better and your better is best and when all is said and done, then and only then can you say you truly passed life’s test.
“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” ~ Edward Everett Hale
The power of one’s self is quite often underestimated and discredited. We forget how powerful we are, how capable we are, how majestically we have been made. And it is not about being cocky, bragging about ourselves, or even tooting our own horn, but instead embracing our self worth and the strengths and qualities that make us unique and remarkable.
One person can literally change not only their own life, but be a catalyst for change across the world if only they believe in themselves. Despite the obstacles we encounter, rest assured you possess every tool to overcome them. The conundrum we all face is tapping into those inner skills and finding a way to translate that into a practical approach. It all starts in the same place, our thoughts. Every action begins with a simple thought, a small whisper of encouragement, a gut feeling that continually repeats itself until acknowledged and acted upon. That voice in your head is not their to nag you, but it is there to remind you who you are, push you past your fears, and help you create your destiny.
The journey of life is filled with many roads, some of which you will have to travel alone and during those journeys is where you will discover who you are and what you are capable of accomplishing. You may only be one, be one is all it takes to make a difference for it starts with a singular action from a brave soul. Every great person who has done anything significant in this world started alone, with a concept and notion that would not let them loose. They were brave enough to step out on faith and strong enough to persevere to the end. As one you may not have been able to everything, but you can do something, and with that something, your legacy will be cemented in the annals of time.
“Ambition is believing in yourself when no one else in the world does.” ~ Author Unknown
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” ~ Henry Ford
Ding, ding, round number 2,
Get off the mat, you haven’t been counted out yet, it’s time for your breakthrough,
Tell me I can’t, Tell me I won’t… Watch me do what I do.
Fallen before and probably won’t be the last,
But the difference now is I know how to get up because I learned from my past.
What may have torn me down before is barely a blimp on the radar,
God gives His greatest battles to His mightiest warriors and I’m His shining star.
Armor in tact and the Holy Spirit watching my back,
You really thought you could tear me down, knock me off track,
That was merely the setup for the come up, now watch me bounce back.
What you didn’t know about me or maybe you needed to see it for yourself,
I’m cut from a different cloth and you can’t find this on the shelf.
Matter of fact they broke the mold and the fabric no longer exists,
The life I live is purpose driven and to serve that purpose, I must insist.
So next time you think it’s over, think you’ve lost, it’s over and you’re through,
Remember, who are you are is how you think and when we believe, dreams really do come true. ©
Life is one challenge after another and just when you think you have passed one test, here comes another. Each challenge is meant to push you to the next level, to test your mental and physical acumen, and to help you grow and change. But are you ready for the challenge?
Truthfully, none of us are quite ready for the challenges we will face, but rest assured, each of us is properly equipped to handle them, even if we do not think so. There is a plan and a purpose in the process and it is up to us to persist in order to prevail. Every challenge is meant as a stepping stone for us to reach new heights, but in order to move up you have to be willing to take the first step and then not be afraid to continue the course. No one started out on top. Every professional was once an amateur and every expert started out as a novice. So what makes you think it would be any different for you?
Change is inevitable, but how you adapt to and apply what transpires makes all the difference. Do not fear change, do not run from it, do not rebel against it. Whether you can see it now or not, change is good and it is the only way we can progress and elevate our lives. If it does not challenge you, it probably is not productive or progressive either. Do not limit your challenges, challenge your limits!
“Challenges are what make life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” ~ Joshua J. Marine
