If you have not already, find yourself a mentor. The insight, expertise, encouragement, testimony, and support someone else can provide is invaluable and vital to your success. Surround yourself with people who have walked the path you are on and who have both failed and triumphed. Learn from the mistakes and the victories and begin to shape the destiny you seek.
Although your vision and dream is unique to you, the lessons others have learned can provide tutelage, as well as a road map to help you circumvent dangerous obstacles and navigate tough terrain. A mentor can help unlock the doors to your future and help build the bridges to get there. Do not underestimate the presence, power, or how precious a mentor can be to one’s life.
Find a mentor who is transparent and brutally honest. If your mentor does not challenge you, does not expose their and your vulnerabilities, is not willing to push you beyond your limits, that mentor is doing you and themselves a great disservice. The whole purpose of a mentorship is growth, evolution, transformation. Find the mentor who will provide all of the aforementioned and will walk with you through it all.
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” ~ William Arthur Ward
“Teach them the quiet words of kindness, to live beyond themselves. Urge them toward excellence, drive them toward gentleness, pull them deep into yourself, pull them upward toward manhood, but softly like an angel arranging clouds. Let your spirit move through them softly.” ~ Pat Conroy
